OVERVIEW: The Tiger Shark is a heavyweight, submarine-launched, wire-guided torpedo developed by South Korea, entering service in 2022. It features electric propulsion and is designed for both anti-submarine and anti-surface missions with advanced guidance and targeting systems.

DETAILS: "Tiger Shark" is the export name for LIG Nex1’s Heavyweight Torpedo-II program, first unveiled at MADEX 2017 and mass-produced following successful trials in 2022. It has a 553 mm diameter, is 6.5 m long, and weighs approximately 1 619 kg, including a 260 kg PBX warhead with magnetic and contact fuses. Powered by a lithium-ion battery and brushless DC motor, it achieves speeds over 55 kn and a range of up to 50 km while operating at depths from 2 to 600 m. Guidance is provided via fiber‑optic wire, inertial navigation, and a conformal active/passive sonar array with wake-homing capability and ± 100° horizontal coverage.

TYPE: Heavyweight Wire-Guided Dual-Purpose Torpedo (Submarine-Launched)

FUNCTION: Launched from 553 mm submarine tubes, Tiger Shark travels under fiber-optic wire guidance during the mid-course phase, allowing real-time updates, before switching to autonomous active/passive acoustic and wake-homing systems to engage either submarines or surface vessels with high accuracy.
